Getting Started

Resume Nexus uses a bring-your-own-key (BYO-key) model for subscribers. After subscribing, you connect your own AI provider account - your data goes directly from our servers to theirs, and we never store API keys in plaintext.

New accounts include 10 free trial screenings so you can try the platform before subscribing. After subscribing, you'll configure your own API key for unlimited, private screening. Follow the guides below to get set up.

OpenAI Setup

OpenAI offers GPT-4.1 and related models. This is the recommended provider for most users.

  1. Go to platform.openai.com and sign in (or create an account).
  2. Navigate to API Keys in the left sidebar and click Create new secret key.
  3. Copy the key - you won't be able to see it again.
  4. In Resume Nexus, go to Settings, select OpenAI, paste your key, and click Save.

Recommended model: GPT-4.1 - best balance of accuracy and cost for resume screening. GPT-4.1 Mini is a good budget option.

Pricing: OpenAI charges per token (roughly per word). A typical resume screening costs approximately $0.01–0.05 depending on document length and model. See OpenAI pricing for current rates.

Anthropic Setup

Anthropic offers Claude models, known for careful reasoning and detailed analysis.

  1. Go to console.anthropic.com and sign in (or create an account).
  2. Navigate to API Keys and click Create Key.
  3. Copy the key immediately.
  4. In Resume Nexus, go to Settings, select Anthropic, paste your key, and click Save.

Recommended model: Claude Sonnet 4.5 - excellent for detailed resume analysis at a reasonable cost.

Pricing: Anthropic also charges per token. Typical cost per screening is similar to OpenAI. See Anthropic pricing for current rates.

Ollama (Self-Hosted)

Ollama lets you run AI models locally on your own hardware. All processing stays on your machine - no data leaves your network.

  1. Install Ollama from ollama.com.
  2. Pull a model: ollama pull llama3 (or another model of your choice).
  3. Start the Ollama server (it runs on http://localhost:11434 by default).
  4. In Resume Nexus, go to Settings, select Ollama, enter the endpoint URL and model name, and click Save.

Note: Self-hosted models vary significantly in quality. Larger models (70B+ parameters) generally produce better screening results but require substantial hardware.

FAQ

Why do I need my own API key?

The BYO-key model gives you full control over your data and costs. Your resumes go directly to the AI provider you choose - we never see them in transit. As a subscriber, you pay your AI provider's standard API rates directly - there are no per-screening markups from us.

Is my key safe?

Yes. Your API key is encrypted at rest using Fernet symmetric encryption before it's stored. The plaintext key is never logged, never returned in API responses, and only decrypted momentarily inside the AI processing service when running a screening. See our Privacy Policy for more details.

Which provider should I pick?

For most users, OpenAI with GPT-4.1 is the best starting point - it's fast, accurate, and cost-effective. If you prefer Anthropic's approach, Claude Sonnet 4.5 is an excellent alternative. If data sovereignty is your top priority, use Ollama to keep everything on your own infrastructure.

Can I switch providers later?

Yes. You can change your AI provider and model at any time in Settings. Note that different models may produce slightly different scores for the same resume - this is normal and expected.
